Study on Coda-Q in meter-scale hydraulic fracturing experiment (STIMTEC)

Aglaja Blanke published a paper in Geophysical Journal International entitled “Meter-scale damage zone characterisation using S-coda waves from active ultrasonic transmission measurements in the STIMTEC project, URL Reiche Zeche, Germany”. The paper deals with high-frequency Coda-Q analysis of the rock masses subjected to fluid injection in GFZ Underground Research Laboratory in Freiberg, Germany using acoustic emission signals. The study shows that coda analysis is a powerful tool for the detection of damage zones and for monitoring changes of the local fracture network within reservoirs important for exploitation or underground storage of gases and liquids.
